World Heritages in Northern Territory

Ayers Rock

Everyone has heard about it, everyone has seen the pictures but isn't it about time you saw Ayer's Rock for yourself? Stop over in tranquil Alice Springs, the oasis in the desert, where you can shop, eat and replenish before visiting the world's largest monolith and World Heritage site. Ayer's Rock rises 348m above the blazing red, sandy scrubland in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. You can watch the chameleon changes through the day as Ayer's Rock fades from a molten-lava colour in the sunlight to a lone charcoal figure as the stars appear. The mighty form offers more than just colours however - the entire area holds deep significance to the local Anangu Aboriginal people and there is plenty of opportunity to learn about Australia's ancient culture.

Kakadu National Park

Kakadu National Park is listed on the World Heritage records for both its natural and cultural significance with several Aboriginal settlements. 200m high sandstone cliffs form a natural boundary to Kakadu National Park which reaches 200km south from the coast and 100km east to west. The scenery is dramatic, pockets of rainforest, mangroves and open grasslands line the landscape and if you take time discover there are many plant, flower and animal species to be seen. Kakadu is World Heritage at its best.

Visits of three days or more are possible dependent on season.
